"Give me a succulent brisket any day of the week and call me happy." - Hattie Montgomery, Waynesville, NC

Little else satisfies our primal need for beef like a brisket, covered in a spice laden rub and slow roasted for hours.  This ever-so-simple oven roasted version won't disappoint you. Use your favorite rub or opt for our fabulous Southern Sisters Spice Rub below.

4 lb. beef brisket, trimmed but leave the fat cap on top

1-2 cans beef broth

Southern Sisters Spice Rub (recipe below)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Season the brisket generously on both sides.  Place in a roasting pan and cook, uncovered, for 1 hour.

Add enough beef broth to create about 1/2" of liquid in the bottom of the pan.

Lower oven temperature to 300 degrees, cover pan tightly, and continue cooking 3 hours or until brisket is fork tender.  Let brisket rest for 20 minutes.  Trim the fat and slice brisket across the grain.  Spoon the juices over the brisket and serve.

Makes approx 12 servings

2 T. salt
