Two of our most basic God-given needs are met with this delectable recipe:  chocolate and simplicity.  Chocolate because, well, it's chocolate.  Simplicity because we southern sisters would prefer to enjoy our chocolate cake without dirtying a large arsenal of bowls, pans and kitchen utensils.  Try it today.  It's not rocket science.  It's easy chocolate science.

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups sugar

1/2 cup cocoa

2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

2 eggs

1 cup canola oil

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup hot water

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting (recipe below)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease a 13x9-inch baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the first 6 ingredients.  Whisk in the eggs, oil and buttermilk.  Add the hot water and whisk until combined.  Transfer batter to the baking pan and bake 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool cake completely.  Frost with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting and serve.

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:  In a large bowl, beat 1/2 cup softened butter until creamy.  Beat in 2 cups confectioners' sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract, and 3-4 Tbsp. milk until desired consistency is achieved.
